How you'll make a difference

As a Social Worker or Advanced Social Worker within an integrated mental health team, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with severe and enduring mental health needs, as well as those who care for and support them.

Working alongside individuals, you will help them identify their needs, build on their strengths, and develop tailored support plans that enable them to achieve their personal goals and live as independently as possible.

What you will be doing

Reporting to the Team Manager within Avon and Wiltshire Partnership (AWP) Trust, you will assess needs, plan interventions, and coordinate, deliver and review services for people with serious mental health needs, as well as their carers and support networks.

Working collaboratively within an integrated health and social care model, you will build effective partnerships with a wide range of agencies and professionals to coordinate and implement support that promotes independence and complies with the Mental Health Act, Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, departmental policies, and locally agreed procedures.

You will work closely with individuals, families and carers to maintain independence wherever possible and ensure outcomes are clearly defined, monitored, and reviewed.

Using your expertise, you will provide person-centred, strengths-based support, focusing on what people tell us will make the biggest difference to them, using your skills and creativity to achieve the best outcomes.

Part of the role may involve preparing reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals, attending tribunal hearings, and ensuring all relevant records and client record systems are maintained accurately and kept up to date.

What we need from you

It is essential that you hold a degree in social work and be registered with Social Work England.

We are looking for someone with substantial post-qualification experience, ideally gained within mental health services. You will have a thorough understanding of relevant legislation, policy and legal frameworks, including the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
