About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Software Engineer to join our underwater robotics division at Saab UK. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing application and software solutions tailored to underwater robotics applications, aligning with Saab Seaeye's strategic business objectives. Your work will involve leveraging creativity, technical expertise, and professionalism to develop software for next-generation underwater vehicles, as well as maintaining and enhancing existing codebases and products. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to pioneering underwater technology that advances our capabilities in marine exploration, defense, and civil security.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a relevant engineering or software engineering degree, complemented by practical industry experience. Strong proficiency in C++, with demonstrable skills and knowledge of at least C+, is essential. Familiarity with control software development, software design, and architecture principles is required. Candidates should have experience with backend server design and structure, as well as a working knowledge of standard web technologies. Exposure to front-end development, including the ability to create functional web pages, is desirable. Competency in programming languages such as Javascript, Python, XML, JSON, HTML, or CSS on both Windows and Linux platforms is preferred. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a passion for innovative technology are highly valued.

Responsibilities
- Design and develop robust software solutions for underwater robotic systems, ensuring alignment with project requirements and technical standards.
- Support and enhance existing software codebases, troubleshooting issues and implementing improvements to optimize performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate software components with hardware systems, ensuring seamless operation of underwater vehicles.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture design, coding, testing, and deployment.
- Contribute to the development of control algorithms and software modules that enable precise navigation, manipulation, and data collection by underwater robots.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of software designs, processes, and updates to facilitate knowledge sharing and future development.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices to continuously improve software solutions and contribute to innovation within the team.
- Ensure compliance with security protocols and participate in workforce screening activities as part of the company's security policies.
