Controls Software Engineer

Location: Nottingham, UK (On-site)
Company: Optio Systems (Valstone Portfolio)

About Optio Systems:

Optio Systems — formed through the merger of DSL and Datastor — is a leading provider of process control software, trusted by nearly 200 manufacturing sites worldwide. Around 70% of our customers are in the UK & Ireland, with the remainder spread across North America and beyond. While we are a long-established partner to the animal feed industry, our software is increasingly powering other sectors including paints and specialist chemicals.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Control Software Engineer to join our Engineering team.

This role is ideal for an experienced C/C++ software developer who enjoys designing robust industrial software solutions. You'll be responsible for developing and enhancing the core functionality of our Imperium4 process control platform, working closely with our Controls engineers to deliver innovative automation solutions for customers across the UK and internationally.

The role is primarily office-based in Nottingham, with occasional opportunities to visit customer sites to support software deployment, commissioning activities and technical investigations. You'll join a collaborative engineering environment where you'll contribute to the ongoing development of a mature industrial software platform while helping shape future functionality and improvements.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
