Software Engineer
Full-time | Nottingham (Hybrid) | £45,000-£55,000
About the Role
Our client is looking for a Software Engineer to join a collaborative team built on openness, respect, and shared excellence. You'll work closely with your teammates to deliver projects of varying scope and complexity for internal and external clients, while continually developing your own skills and depth of knowledge.
This is a role for someone who thrives on solving real problems, enjoys working across the full lifecycle of a project - from design through to delivery and support - and wants the opportunity to grow their technical and commercial understanding within a collaborative business.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, develop, and code software, taking a leading role in sprint ceremonies (planning, refinement, retrospectives).
- Author and review documentation, design documentation, and training materials, and support project planning and estimation.
- Provide third-line support, investigating and resolving customer issues, and act as a point of guidance and mentorship within your team.
- Translate customer needs into clear technical requirements, and support other parts of the business with technical input.
- Undertake research to advance ways of working, and write/execute tasks within the DevOps environment using the company's selected toolset.
- Gain exposure to multiple projects and revenue streams by moving across teams and tasks, while continually developing your technical and communication skills.

What You'll Need
Essential:
- A degree (or equivalent) in software engineering or a related discipline.
- 3-5+ years' experience as a software engineer.
- Strong working knowledge of Python, Linux, and Bash.
- Already holding, or eligible and willing to obtain and maintain, SC clearance.
- A solutions-driven mindset - someone who's comfortable with Agile process, a short path to the client on requirements, and thrives under pressure.

Desirable:
- Suitable equivalent experience in place of a degree.
- Additional certifications backing up your skills.
- Exposure to R&D projects.
- Experience with Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, and Jenkins.
- Strong cultural and stylistic fit with the team; a pragmatic, detail-aware approach focused on producing solutions.
Please note: heavy preference will be given to candidates who already hold active SC clearance. Candidates may start on BPSS but must be willing and eligible to go through SC clearance; willingness and eligibility to obtain and maintain SC clearance is mandatory for this role.
Location & Working Pattern
This role is based in Nottingham on a hybrid basis, with in-office attendance required once a fortnight, plus occasional travel to client sites as required.
