What You Will Be Doing
Developing, supporting and continuously improving software solutions that enhance the Society’s systems and business processes, working under supervision as part of the IT team and in line with Progressive’s development standards, security controls and regulatory requirements.
The role contributes to the Society’s strategic plan by analysing requirements, building and integrating applications, and promoting best practices such as CI/CD and test-driven development to improve user experience, automation and operational efficiency.
About The Role
The Software Developer will be required to:
- Analyse business needs with stakeholders to gather requirements for new and existing projects.
- Work with the in-house subject matter experts and IT teams to support the business and improve automation of key processes.
- Develop and maintain.NET solutions (e.g., C#, ASP.NET Core, APIs and background services) or SaaS platform changes, in line with agreed architecture and the Society’s coding standards and to deliver improved customer experience.
- Implement best practices such as continuous integration, continuous delivery and test-driven development.
- Write and maintain automated tests (unit/integration) using appropriate.NET testing frameworks and support test execution within the CI pipeline.
- Use source control and follow branching, pull request and code review practices; address review feedback and share learning with the team.
- Support data-related development including SQL query writing, stored procedure changes where applicable, and safe use of ORM/data access patterns.
- Assist with troubleshooting and resolution of defects and incidents across development, test and production environments, under supervision, including root-cause analysis and fix validation.
- Produce clear technical documentation (e.g., configuration notes, support guides and release notes) to support maintainability and knowledge sharing.
- Support build and release processes for.NET applications (e.g., Azure DevOps pipelines), including deployment steps, environment configuration and post-release verification.
- Use AI-assisted development tools appropriately to support software design, coding, testing, troubleshooting, documentation and knowledge discovery, while applying professional judgement, security requirements and coding standards.
- Evaluate and validate outputs generated by AI tools to ensure accuracy, maintainability, security and compliance with the Society's policies and regulatory obligations.
- Contribute to the adoption of emerging development practices, including responsible use of AI technologies to improve team productivity and software quality.

Required Criteria
- Degree in Computer Science related discipline.
- A minimum of one year’s experience developing applications in a professional work environment.
- Experience of .NET ecosystem and C#.
- Awareness of programming best practices and ability to apply them under guidance.
- Good understanding of current and emerging technologies and their potential to deliver business benefits.
- Good analytical approach to problem solving.
- API integration to core platforms (e.g. banking systems).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to adapt style and explanations to support others’ understanding.
- Understanding of AI-assisted software development tools and the ability to apply them effectively to support coding, testing, debugging, documentation and problem solving.
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs and ensure solutions meet security, quality and business requirements.
Desired Criteria
- A scripting language, such as Python or Powershell.
- Development and design skills with MS SQL or Oracle.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT or similar technologies.
