In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining our core SaaS platform, along with supporting systems and integrations. The role is hands-on and technically diverse, involving work on backend services, APIs, integrations, and supporting infrastructure. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have approximately 4-6 years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of working within stable engineering environments. Candidates with more extensive experience are encouraged to apply. We value individuals who have spent at least three years with one organization, demonstrating their ability to take ownership, maintain systems over time, and see projects through to completion.
Experience within a SaaS, platform, or scale-up environment is highly desirable, though strong agency or product development backgrounds will also be considered. The candidate should possess a solid understanding of backend development, API design, and working with production systems and integrations.
Technical skills required include proficiency in a serious programming language such as C#, Go, Java, or similar, along with experience designing and maintaining APIs. Familiarity with cloud-native environments or self-managed infrastructure and working with third-party integrations is essential. Additionally, understanding concepts like retries, idempotency, partial failures, and reconciliation will be advantageous. Strong debugging skills and the ability to analyze logs and symptoms to identify underlying issues are crucial. While not mandatory, the ability to read and modify modern frontend code is a plus, demonstrating versatility and a collaborative mindset.
