About The Role

We are currently seeking a skilled Software Developer for a 12-month contract based in Portsmouth. This role offers a competitive rate of £55 per hour inside IR35. As a Software Developer at ARM, you will be working with a market-leading Defence and Aerospace company that is committed to innovation and growth. The position requires a professional with a strong background in Java development and experience working within microservice architectures. You will be involved in all phases of the software development lifecycle, contributing to the design, implementation, testing, and deployment of cutting-edge solutions.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in software development, with specific expertise in Java and microservice architectures. Key qualifications include:

  • Proficiency in Java Core (version 8+)
  • Experience with Spring Boot and Spring Framework, including Hibernate
  • Strong knowledge of developing RESTful APIs over HTTPS
  • Experience working within a microservice architecture
  • Understanding of Web Services and distributed systems
  • Familiarity with software design patterns
  • Experience with Agile development processes, particularly SCRUM
  • Knowledge of CI/CD delivery techniques
  • Proficiency with source code management tools such as GIT
  • Experience using issue tracking systems like Jira
  • Familiarity with UML/SysML modeling using tools like Enterprise Architect

Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to work effectively within a team, and a proactive approach to learning new technologies and methodologies.

Responsibilities

The Software Developer will be responsible for a broad range of tasks aimed at delivering high-quality software solutions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Participating in all stages of the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining robust, scalable microservices using Java and Spring Boot
  • Implementing automated testing to ensure code quality and reliability
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new features for innovative products
  • Estimating tasks and planning work in accordance with Agile sprint cycles
  • Contributing to continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Engaging in code reviews and providing constructive feedback to team members
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation of development processes and codebases
  • Staying current with emerging technologies and industry best practices to continually improve development processes
