Software Engineer / Forward Deployed Engineer

Location: Bristol - hybrid, approximately 1–2 days per week in the office

Salary: Up to £80,000 per annum

Employment type: Permanent, full-time

About the role

Due to continued growth, our client is expanding its UK engineering team and looking for Software Engineers to join its Bristol office.

This is a little different from a traditional software development position. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll combine hands-on engineering with client-facing consultancy, working directly with clients to understand their challenges, shape practical solutions and take projects from initial idea through to production.

The role is approximately a 50/50 split between technical delivery and consultative work. You don’t need to specialise in one particular technology, but you should have strong technical foundations, enjoy solving unfamiliar problems and be comfortable communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What you’ll be doing

  • Working directly with clients to understand their challenges and gather requirements
  • Translating unclear or ambitious ideas into realistic technical solutions
  • Designing, building, deploying and supporting software in production
  • Developing full-stack applications, APIs and cloud-based services
  • Contributing to architecture and wider technical decisions
  • Using AI and automation to improve products and development workflows
  • Explaining technical concepts, limitations and trade-offs clearly
  • Collaborating with engineers, client teams and senior stakeholders
  • Taking ownership of delivery from discovery through to implementation
  • Learning new technologies and adapting to different projects quickly

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
