About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Software Developer to join our client, a prominent global engineering and manufacturing company, based in Peterborough. This fully site-based position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of essential software tools and automation solutions that support a large control system development team. As a Software Developer, you will be instrumental in enhancing the quality and efficiency of software development workflows, automation processes, and testing procedures. Your work will directly impact the engineering teams by providing reliable, scalable, and innovative software solutions that streamline their operations.
The role involves working across various software applications, automation scripts, digital toolchains, data management, and CI/CD pipelines. You will be responsible for translating user and engineering requirements into effective software solutions, supporting automation of development and testing workflows, and ensuring software quality through rigorous testing and documentation. This position offers a 12-month contract with a competitive hourly rate, providing an excellent platform for professional development within a dynamic engineering environment.

Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Proven experience in software development
- Strong background in programming languages such as C# and Python
- Familiarity with GIT for version control
- Experience with Azure DevOps
- Solid understanding of modern software development practices, including debugging, testing, and documentation
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain software tools, scripts, and automation solutions to support control system development activities.
- Translate engineering and user requirements into clear, actionable software development tasks.
- Build, test, debug, and document software applications using modern development methodologies and tools.
- Support automation initiatives to streamline development, validation, and testing workflows.
- Utilize tools such as Git, Azure DevOps, Visual Studio/VS Code, and automated test frameworks to ensure continuous integration and deployment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for automation and process improvements.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and troubleshooting to maintain high-quality software deliverables.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of software design, development processes, and deployment procedures.
