About The Role
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Voice Services Developer to join our dynamic team on a 4+ year contract based in Suffolk. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in building, maintaining, and optimizing next-generation communication platforms that integrate traditional telecommunication protocols with modern cloud-based AI technologies. This role requires a deep understanding of SIP-based voice services, media engine management, and speech AI integration across multiple cloud environments. The successful applicant will collaborate closely with senior architects and DevOps teams to develop scalable, reliable, and innovative voice solutions that enhance our communication infrastructure and customer experience.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess professional experience with Java programming, including expertise in multi-threading and network programming. A solid understanding of Java applications utilizing JAIN SLEE framework and SIP Servlet frameworks is essential. Hands-on experience configuring and scripting telephony engines such as FreeSWITCH or Asterisk is required, along with a comprehensive knowledge of voice protocols like SIP, RTP/RTCP, and SDP. Familiarity with cloud speech APIs such as AWS Transcribe/Polly, Azure Speech, and Google Cloud Speech-to-Text is necessary. Candidates should also have experience deploying and managing applications across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Proficiency with VoIP troubleshooting tools like Wireshark or sngrep is expected. Preferred qualifications include experience with Java telephony frameworks like Metaswitch Rhino SLEE or Oracle OCCAS, understanding of containerization using Docker and Kubernetes, and knowledge of WebRTC and telephony security standards such as TLS and SRTP.

Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and maintain high-performance SIP-based voice services leveraging frameworks such as JAIN SLEE and SIP Servlets to ensure robust communication capabilities.
- Configure, manage, and optimize media servers like FreeSWITCH or Asterisk, ensuring seamless operation and scalability of telephony engines.
- Integrate Speech-to-Text (STT), Text-to-Speech (TTS), and Natural Language Processing (NLP) workflows into live voice streams, enhancing conversational AI functionalities.
- Deploy and monitor voice applications across multiple cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Utilize network analysis tools such as Wireshark or sngrep to diagnose and resolve audio quality issues, call drops, and latency problems effectively.
- Collaborate with senior architects and DevOps teams to design and implement scalable conversational AI bots, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
- Maintain documentation of development processes, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures to facilitate ongoing support and knowledge sharing.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies in telecommunication protocols, cloud computing, and AI integration to continuously improve platform capabilities.
