About The Role
We are currently seeking a skilled Voice Services Developer to join our dynamic team on a 4+ year contract basis in Suffolk. This role is integral to building, maintaining, and enhancing next-generation communication platforms that integrate traditional telecommunication protocols with modern cloud-based AI technologies. The successful candidate will serve as a bridge between legacy telephony systems and innovative cloud solutions, focusing on developing robust SIP services, managing open-source media engines, and implementing advanced Speech AI functionalities across multi-cloud environments. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge communication technologies, contributing to the development of scalable, intelligent voice solutions that drive business transformation.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in Java programming, with extensive experience in multi-threading and network programming. In-depth knowledge of Java applications utilizing frameworks such as JAIN SLEE and SIP Servlets is essential. Hands-on experience configuring and scripting with telephony engines like FreeSWITCH or Asterisk is required, along with a solid understanding of voice protocols including SIP, RTP/RTCP, and SDP. Familiarity with integrating cloud-based Speech APIs such as AWS Transcribe/Polly, Azure Speech, or Google Cloud Speech-to-Text is necessary. Candidates should also have experience deploying and managing voice applications across multi-cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Proficiency with VoIP troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark or sngrep is highly desirable. Preferred qualifications include experience with Java telephony frameworks like Metaswitch Rhino SLEE or Oracle OCCAS, as well as knowledge of containerization using Docker and Kubernetes, and familiarity with WebRTC and telephony security standards like TLS and SRTP.

Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and maintain high-performance SIP-based voice services utilizing frameworks such as JAIN SLEE and SIP Servlets to ensure reliable communication channels.
- Configure, manage, and scale media servers like FreeSWITCH or Asterisk to support seamless voice interactions.
- Integrate Speech AI technologies including Speech-to-Text, Text-to-Speech, and Natural Language Processing workflows into live voice streams, enhancing conversational capabilities.
- Deploy and monitor voice applications across various cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and GCP, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
- Troubleshoot network and audio quality issues using diagnostic tools like Wireshark or sngrep, resolving call drops, latency, and quality concerns promptly.
- Collaborate closely with senior architects, DevOps teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to design and implement scalable conversational AI bots and voice solutions.
- Stay updated with emerging telecommunication standards, cloud services, and AI advancements to continuously improve platform capabilities.
- Document development processes, contribute to technical specifications, and participate in code reviews to maintain high-quality standards.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
