Summary
MC Apprenticeships & Training are recruiting on behalf of In Studio for a Software Developer Apprentice. This is an excellent opportunity for a hardworking, motivated team player to join a busy team, taking part in code reviews, developing software solutions, and communicating with colleagues, project managers, and stakeholders.
Wage
- £15,600 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
- National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices
Training course
- Software developer (level 4)
Hours
- Monday - Friday (Day release on Tuesday). Shifts to be confirmed.
- 37 hours 30 minutes a week

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Learn and apply an industry standard programming language for application development
- Collaborate with experienced developers to understand project requirements, design, and implementation
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code adhering to best practices
- Participate in code reviews and learn from feedback
- Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, and maintaining existing applications
- Use version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborate on code repositories
- Understand and implement testing methodologies (e.g., unit testing, integration testing)
- Continuously expand your knowledge of software development technologies, frameworks, and industry trends
- Participate in project planning, estimation, and task management
- Communicate effectively with team members, project managers, and stakeholders
- Develop an understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum)
- Learn and apply principles of object-oriented programming (OOP) and Model-View-Controller

Understanding apprenticeship levels
What you'll learn
- Create logical and maintainable code
- Develop effective user interfaces
- Link code to data sets
- Test code and analyse results to correct errors found using unit testing
- Conduct a range of test types, such as Integration, System, User Acceptance, Non-Functional, Performance, and Security testing
- Identify and create test scenarios
- Apply structured techniques to problem solving, debug code, and understand the structure of programmes to identify and resolve issues
- Create simple software designs to effectively communicate understanding of the program
- Create analysis artefacts, such as use cases and/or user stories
- Build, manage, and deploy code into the relevant environment
- Apply an appropriate software development approach according to the relevant paradigm (for example, object-oriented, event-driven, or procedural)
- Follow software designs and functional or technical specifications
- Follow testing frameworks and methodologies
- Follow company, team, or client approaches to continuous integration, version, and source control
- Communicate software solutions and ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Apply algorithms, logic, and data structures
- Interpret and implement a given design whilst remaining compliant with security and maintainability requirements

Essential qualifications
- GCSE in: Maths and English (grade 4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
