About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Software Developer to join our dynamic team working on advanced defence and security systems. This role offers the opportunity to develop sophisticated software solutions that address real-world challenges in national security, cyber security, and sensor signal processing. The successful candidate will be involved in projects that range from developing algorithms for new sensor data to optimizing software for constrained environments and creating user interfaces using modern web technologies. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will have the chance to lead technical initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to innovative projects that have a meaningful impact on national security. The role requires a proactive individual with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a keen interest in cutting-edge technology.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background in a numerate discipline such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or Computer Science, typically evidenced by a 1st or 2:1 degree classification and possibly a PhD. Proven commercial experience in developing and maintaining complex systems using C/C++ is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, a solid understanding of software engineering principles, and experience working on large-scale projects. Eligibility for UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance is mandatory, requiring British citizenship and residency in the UK for at least the past 10 years. Additional skills in digital signal processing (DSP), image processing, web UI technologies (HTML, JavaScript), and Linux systems will be highly advantageous.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining advanced software solutions tailored to defence and security applications. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Writing high-quality, efficient code in C/C++
  • Collaborating with hardware engineers to integrate software with sensor hardware
  • Developing algorithms for sensor data processing
  • Optimizing software for performance in resource-constrained environments
  • Creating intuitive web-based user interfaces for electronic devices
  • Mentoring junior team members
  • Participating in code reviews
  • Contributing to technical documentation

Additionally, you will work closely with project managers and clients to understand requirements, provide technical insights, and deliver solutions within project timelines.
