Main purpose of the role:
BGC Group is seeking an experienced and driven Software Developer to join its Trading Systems Development team.
The successful candidate will help develop, enhance and support high-performance trading applications, including matching engines and FIX gateways. The role will involve working primarily with Java and C++, alongside JavaScript and Python, within a fast-paced electronic trading environment.
You will work on business-critical systems that require high availability, low latency and efficient processing of real-time market and trading data. Previous experience working with the FIX protocol in a high-frequency or low-latency trading environment is essential. Experience within foreign exchange markets would be advantageous.

Key responsibilities:
- Design, develop and enhance matching engines, FIX gateways and other electronic trading applications.
- Build and maintain high-performance, low-latency applications using Java and C++.
- Develop and support client-server applications and real-time market data or trading gateways.
- Maintain and enhance existing applications written in Java, JavaScript and related technologies.
- Work with FIX and other electronic trading protocols.
- Develop efficient in-memory data structures and processing techniques.
- Troubleshoot production issues and improve application performance, stability and scalability.
- Contribute to DevOps practices, automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
- Collaborate with trading, product, infrastructure and other technology teams to deliver reliable trading solutions.
- Support the full software development lifecycle, from design and development through to deployment and ongoing maintenance.
Skills / experience required:
- At least five years’ professional software development experience, with strong Java development skills.
- Working knowledge of C and C++, together with experience or familiarity with Python.
- Hands-on experience developing applications that use FIX or similar electronic trading protocols, such as trading or market data gateways.
- Experience working within a high-frequency, low-latency or electronic trading environment.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP, unicast and multicast.
- Good knowledge of Linux, including system calls, multithreading, inter-process communication, sockets and scheduling.
- Experience with performance-focused programming techniques used in high-frequency trading systems, including lock-free queues and circular buffers.
- Strong understanding of efficient in-memory data management, data structures and associated optimisation techniques.
- Knowledge of NUMA architectures and NUMA-aware programming techniques.
- Experience developing client-server applications.
- Experience using troubleshooting, profiling and performance optimisation tools.
- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of SQL and relational databases.

Personal attributes:
You will be a technically strong and delivery-focused developer who is comfortable working on complex, business-critical trading systems. You should have a strong understanding of software performance, concurrency and networking, along with the ability to diagnose and resolve challenging technical issues. You will be able to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders and will take ownership of delivering robust, scalable and maintainable software solutions.
