About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our client, a mission-led technology consultancy that delivers secure, scalable software solutions primarily for the UK Government and Defence sectors. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on high-impact projects that support national security and public services. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and deploying secure, cloud-native applications. You will also serve as a technical leader within the engineering team, mentoring junior engineers, shaping architectural decisions, and driving best practices across the software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in modern application development, cloud platforms, and DevOps practices, with a passion for creating innovative solutions in a collaborative environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess strong commercial experience in software engineering and modern application development. Proven expertise in building scalable applications, APIs, and distributed systems is essential. Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, along with familiarity with modern software delivery practices, is required. A good understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and Infrastructure as Code is also necessary. Candidates should have experience working within Agile environments, demonstrating a commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code. Strong communication skills are vital for effective collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Additionally, previous experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership within teams is highly desirable. Candidates with knowledge of secure software engineering, DevSecOps practices, and existing UK DV Security Clearance will have a distinct advantage.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
