About The Role
Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Software Developer on a 4+ year contract based in Suffolk. The successful candidate will serve as a Voice Services Developer, responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing next-generation communication platforms. This role requires a blend of telecommunication protocol expertise and modern cloud-based AI integration. The developer will focus on creating stable SIP services utilizing Java, managing open-source media engines, and incorporating advanced Speech AI technologies across multi-cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. The position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of telecommunications innovation, contributing to the development of scalable, reliable, and intelligent voice communication solutions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in Java programming, including experience with multi-threading and network programming. In-depth knowledge of Java applications utilizing frameworks such as JAIN SLEE and SIP Servlets is essential. Hands-on experience configuring and scripting with telephony engines like FreeSWITCH or Asterisk is required, along with a thorough understanding of voice protocols including SIP, RTP/RTCP, and SDP. Familiarity with integrating cloud speech APIs such as AWS Transcribe/Polly, Azure Speech, and Google Cloud Speech-to-Text is necessary. Candidates should have prior experience deploying and managing applications across multiple cloud platforms—AWS, Azure, and GCP. Proficiency with VoIP troubleshooting tools like Wireshark or sngrep is also important. Preferred qualifications include experience with Java telephony frameworks such as Metaswitch Rhino SLEE or Oracle OCCAS, as well as knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes. A good understanding of WebRTC and telephony security standards such as TLS and SRTP will be advantageous.

Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and maintain high-performance SIP-based voice services, ensuring stability and scalability using frameworks such as JAIN SLEE and SIP Servlets.
- Configure, manage, and optimize media servers like FreeSWITCH or Asterisk to support robust communication channels.
- Integrate Speech AI workflows including Speech-to-Text, Text-to-Speech, and Natural Language Processing into live voice streams to enhance user interactions.
- Deploy and monitor voice applications across multiple cloud platforms, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Troubleshoot network and audio quality issues using diagnostic tools like Wireshark and sngrep, diagnosing call drops, latency, and other network-related problems.
- Collaborate with senior architects and DevOps teams to design and roll out scalable conversational AI bots and voice solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and security.
- Stay updated with emerging telecommunications and AI technologies to incorporate best practices into development processes.
