About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Developer to join a rapidly expanding technology organization based in Gloucester. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a secure, high-technical environment, contributing to the development of innovative software solutions. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of commercial software development experience, demonstrating a strong technical background and proven track record in delivering complex projects. A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred, or equivalent professional experience. Proficiency in Java and/or C++ is essential, along with extensive experience working within Linux environments. Candidates should possess a solid understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design principles, and backend development, including APIs and services. Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases, version control systems like Git, and modern development workflows is required. Additional preferred skills include experience with containerization technologies such as Docker, CI/CD practices, DevOps methodologies, and cloud platforms. Strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience working within Agile teams are also vital for success in this role.

Responsibilities

The Software Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing software applications primarily using Java and/or C++. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading technical delivery across critical development projects
  • Contributing to software architecture decisions
  • Ensuring solutions are secure, reliable, and maintainable
  • Supporting the delivery of APIs, backend services, and applications
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex software issues
  • Mentoring junior developers and conducting code reviews
  • Participating in testing and deployment activities
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives
  • Staying current with emerging technologies and integrating them into the development process to enhance product quality and efficiency
