Software Developer (Spring Boot, Angular)
H2 Software Ltd is a software development company based in Horsham, West Sussex, UK. We develop specialist SaaS software for higher education institutions, focusing on business school accreditation and workload planning and analysis.
We are currently looking to expand our growing team with a software developer.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain front-end functionality using Angular and TypeScript
- Develop and maintain back-end services and REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot
- Use AI coding agents to generate, refactor, test and improve software
- Break development work into clear tasks that can be delegated effectively to AI agents
- Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security and maintainability
- Build responsive user interfaces using Angular Material and established UI/UX patterns
- Work with PostgreSQL databases and application data models
- Investigate and resolve software defects across the application stack
- Participate in code reviews, testing and development reviews
- Follow trunk-based development practices and secure development processes supporting ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus

Requirements
Essential
- Experience with both Angular/TypeScript and Java/Spring Boot, with stronger experience in either front-end or back-end development acceptable
- Experience with agentic development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot or similar
- Willingness to make effective use of AI as part of day-to-day software development
- Experience using AI coding assistants or autonomous coding agents as part of software development
- Ability to formulate clear technical tasks, prompts and acceptance criteria for AI agents
- Ability to critically review and correct AI-generated code
- Strong HTML and CSS skills
- Experience developing and consuming REST APIs
- Familiarity with relational databases and SQL
- Familiarity with Github and trunk-based development workflows
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Desirable
- Experience with PostgreSQL
- Experience with Angular Material
- Experience with CI/CD and automated testing
- Understanding of a range of security principles such as OWASP
- Familiarity with accessibility standards such as WCAG
- Familiarity with AWS or cloud-hosted applications
- Familiarity with ISO 27001 or secure development environments

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
This is initially a 12-month fixed-term post, with the opportunity for extension subject to business needs and satisfactory performance. Part-time or flexible working is possible and will be considered.
Location: Primarily remote, with fortnightly office days in Central London. This role is only suitable for applicants based in reasonable commuting distance from central London.
Salary: GBP 34,000-46,000 gross per annum + pension contributions, depending on experience. Regular salary reviews based on performance and increased responsibilities.
Applicants must have the existing right to work in the UK. Our offers will be subject to UK right to work check, satisfactory references and a basic DBS check in line with ISO 27001:2022 compliance requirements and UK law.
