About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our dynamic team at NM Group, based in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. This hybrid role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and enhancement of our pioneering geospatial services tailored for the electric utilities market. As a Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust software solutions that enable our clients to visualize, analyze, and manage their electrical networks more effectively. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, GIS specialists, and product managers, to deliver high-quality features and improvements to our core technology stack. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in software engineering, with experience in Python and related technologies. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred, along with proven experience in developing scalable and maintainable software solutions. Familiarity with modern development practices such as Agile, automated testing, and DevOps is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work effectively within a team. Experience with C#/.NET, SQL databases, and orchestration tools will be advantageous. A proactive attitude, attention to detail, and a passion for innovation are key attributes for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and backend services using Python, ensuring high performance and scalability.
- Contribute to the development of REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures to support our geospatial solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver reliable software solutions.
- Implement best practices for software development, including code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
- Manage and control changes across development, testing, and production environments to ensure stability and security.
- Assist in reading, understanding, and modifying legacy codebases, ensuring documentation and version control are maintained.
- Participate in troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving technical issues related to software performance and stability.
- Engage with AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity, validate code, and understand AI limitations.
- Support containerization efforts using Docker and facilitate deployment of containerized applications.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of data workflows and orchestration using tools like Prefect or similar.
