About The Role
We are currently seeking a skilled Voice Services Developer to join our dynamic team on a 4+ year contract based in Suffolk. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining cutting-edge communication platforms that integrate traditional telecommunication protocols with modern cloud-based AI technologies. Your expertise will contribute to building scalable, reliable, and innovative voice solutions that enhance our clients' communication capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SIP development, media server management, and speech AI integration across multiple cloud environments. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of telecommunication and AI convergence, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver state-of-the-art voice services.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a robust set of technical skills and experience, including:
- Professional experience with Java programming, particularly in multi-threading and network applications.
- In-depth knowledge of Java, including frameworks such as JAIN SLEE and SIP Servlets.
- Hands-on experience configuring and scripting with telephony engines like FreeSWITCH or Asterisk.
- Solid understanding of telecommunication protocols such as SIP, RTP/RTCP, and SDP.
- Experience integrating cloud speech APIs such as AWS Transcribe/Polly, Azure Speech, or Google Cloud Speech-to-Text.
- Proficiency in deploying and managing applications across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Proficiency with network analysis tools like Wireshark or sngrep for VoIP troubleshooting.

Preferred qualifications include experience with Java telephony frameworks such as Metaswitch Rhino SLEE or Oracle OCCAS, familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, and knowledge of WebRTC and security standards such as TLS and SRTP.
Responsibilities
- SIP Development: Develop, test, and maintain high-performance SIP-based voice services using frameworks like JAIN SLEE and SIP Servlets to ensure reliable and scalable communication channels.
- Media Server Administration: Configure, manage, and optimize open-source media engines such as FreeSWITCH or Asterisk to support voice call processing and media handling.
- Speech AI Integration: Implement and integrate Speech-to-Text, Text-to-Speech, and Natural Language Processing workflows into live voice streams to facilitate intelligent voice interactions.
- Cloud Operations: Deploy, monitor, and optimize voice applications across multiple cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and GCP to ensure high availability and performance.
- Troubleshooting: Utilize network analysis tools to diagnose and resolve issues related to audio quality, call drops, latency, and other VoIP-related challenges.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with senior architects, DevOps teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to design, develop, and roll out scalable conversational AI bots and voice solutions.
- Documentation and Compliance: Maintain comprehensive documentation of development processes, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures, ensuring adherence to industry security and compliance standards.
