Application Deadline: 11 September 2026

Department: Development

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Compensation: £30,000 - £40,000 / year

Description

Join our Development Team as a Software Developer!

We are Cintra. Known for our award-winning software that delivers payroll solutions to over 1000 clients. If you're passionate about payroll and are eager to join a dynamic team of seasoned professionals, this is the opportunity for you.

As the proud recipient of the Payroll Service Provider of the Year 2025 award at the CIPP Annual Excellence Awards, we offer exciting opportunities for professional development, competitive bonus structures, and a collaborative work environment.

Our modern offices are located in Hoults Yard, nestled on the outskirts of the vibrant Ouseburn Valley. This area boasts a thriving creative community, rich local heritage, and a lively social scene.

Why This Role Is Different

We are looking for an exceptional early-career Software Engineer from new graduate to around 2 years of commercial experience.

We care more about problem-solving ability, learning speed, judgement and ownership than experience in a particular framework or language.

Our engineering environment is increasingly AI-native. Engineers use modern AI models and development tools to understand existing systems, design solutions, generate and test code, investigate problems and accelerate delivery. The ability to reason about a problem, direct these tools effectively and validate the result is increasingly more important than memorising a particular technology stack.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The successful person will initially work alongside experienced engineers and Technical Leads, with the expectation that they develop quickly into someone capable of owning an important area of our platform.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong degree, ideally first-class or strong 2:1, in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a similarly analytical discipline
  • Up to 2 years' commercial software engineering experience
  • Evidence of exceptional problem-solving and learning ability
  • Has built and shipped real production software
  • Understands the fundamentals of:
    • APIs and distributed web applications
    • relational data and SQL
    • software design
    • testing
    • security
    • debugging and production systems
  • Comfortable using AI models and coding agents extensively as part of software development
  • Able to understand and challenge AI-generated solutions rather than blindly accepting them
  • Interested in understanding the business and product domain, not just implementing tickets
  • Takes responsibility and naturally moves towards ownership
  • Communicates clearly with technical and non-technical people

Technology

Our products currently use technologies including C#,.NET, SQL Server, Blazor, Angular, TypeScript and cloud platforms.

Experience with these is useful, but we do not want to exclude exceptional candidates because they have worked in a different modern technology stack.

Someone who has demonstrated that they can learn quickly and build good software is more important than someone who happens to know our current framework.
