About the team
We are the Model Lifecycle team inside Expedia Group's ML Platform. Our services help the MLS and MLE community across EG take use cases from idea to production model in the shortest time possible, with paved paths for training, registration, deployment, serving and monitoring.
As an SDE II you will own features end to end across one or two of these services, working in Python, Go, TypeScript and Kubernetes, with senior and principal engineers close by to pair, review and unblock. Hundreds of models across Expedia, Vrbo and Hotels.com run on what we help build, so the code you ship is felt quickly and good engineering habits (tests, observability, clear PRs) are valued as much as raw output.
We lean heavily on coding agents (Cursor, Claude Code and friends) to accelerate the delivery cycle: scaffolding services, drafting tests, reviewing PRs and keeping documentation in step with the code. You'll have space to learn how to get the best out of them and we'll look to you to apply good judgement on what lands in main.
In this role, you will:
- Design, build, test, and maintain reliable software components that deliver high-quality customer and business outcomes.
- Translate product and technical requirements into maintainable solutions, applying sound engineering practices across the software development lifecycle.
- Develop clear low-level designs, APIs, data models, and integrations that support scalable, secure, and dependable services.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical issues, improve system performance and reliability, and contribute to operational excellence.
- Collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and technical domains while applying transferable skills to multiple problem spaces.
- Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve outcomes, while building familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, workflows, and the application of AI/ML concepts to real-world products.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated professional software engineering experience appropriate to an SDE II role.
- Experience owning and delivering features or components within a service or defined technical area.
- Proficiency in software development fundamentals, including coding, testing, debugging, version control, API design, data modeling, and low-level system design.
- Experience working with cross-functional partners to deliver, operate, and improve production software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing and operating reliable services at scale, with a focus on performance, availability, security, and maintainability.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to architectural decisions, simplify complex technical problems, and improve engineering practices within a defined service or domain.
- Experience using monitoring, logging, metrics, and data-driven analysis to diagnose issues and guide technical improvements.
- Practical exposure to AI/ML-enabled products, developer tools, or workflows, including the ability to evaluate and safely apply these solutions in production-oriented software engineering.
- Experience delivering technical solutions across multiple domains or technology areas, with the adaptability to apply sound engineering judgment in unfamiliar problem spaces.
