Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)
Location: Derry/Londonderry or Cambridge, United Kingdom (Hybrid) Employment Type: Full Time
About the Role
We’re seeking a motivated Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our 3DVis Cloud team at AVEVA. In this role, you’ll help deliver best-in-class 3D visualisation and XR (Extended Reality) cloud streaming technologies, ensuring that our cloud and on-premises solutions meet high quality, robustness, and security standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about test automation, quality engineering, and cloud technologies, who wants to develop their skills in a collaborative, scaled agile (SAFe) environment.
Key Responsibilities
As part of our scaled-agile software development process, your responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with developers, DevOps engineers, and SDET engineers to define, implement, and execute functional and non-functional test coverage for our product, taking ownership of coverage for assigned features and work items.
- Enhance our test automation by:
- Designing, writing, and maintaining automated tests using C# within existing frameworks and team patterns.
- Owning investigations into test failure issues, improving test reliability, and driving corrections in a continuous integration environment.
- Utilise Azure DevOps Test Plans to schedule and run regression testing, and Azure DevOps Pipelines to configure and deploy to test environments.
- Improve testing practices by:
- Identifying gaps in test coverage.
- Proposing and implementing new test cases or automation improvements.
- Sharing best practices across the team.
- Help maintain production quality by:
- Investigating production issues.
- Implementing preventative improvements like automated regression coverage and reinforcing test automation.
- Follow AVEVA’s software development quality practices and policies.

Essential Requirements
(We encourage applications even if you don’t meet every requirement.)
- A clear understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and how testing supports delivery.
- Professional experience in functional testing with exposure to non-functional testing (e.g., reliability, performance, or security), and demonstrated ability to own test coverage for specified features.
- Comfort working in C# to write and maintain robust, maintainable automated tests following team practices.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with strong organisation and the ability to:
- Work independently.
- Share concerns and drive issues to resolution with the team.
- A methodical, proactive approach, a strong learning mindset, and enthusiasm for technical growth.
Desired Skills and Competencies
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of software design principles such as OOP, SOLID, and DRY.
- Knowledge of test automation frameworks.
- Experience with performance and load testing (e.g., k6 tools).
- Agile/Scrum experience.
- Familiarity with Azure cloud services.

Hybrid Working Policy
By default, the role expects 3 office days per week at the local AVEVA office. Some roles can be fully office-based or remote, depending on customer-markets requirements.
