About the Role
SKY UK is looking for an experienced Software Development Lead to join their engineering team onsite in Brentwood. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in RDK-B (Reference Design Kit for Broadband) and networking technologies, along with strong technical leadership skills to guide development teams delivering next-generation broadband and set-top box/gateway software solutions. Proficiency in Mandarin is required to support close collaboration with cross-regional teams and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of software for broadband gateway/router products based on the RDK-B platform.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of software engineers, driving best practices in coding, architecture, and testing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-regional teams, including Mandarin-speaking stakeholders/vendors, to align on requirements, timelines, and technical decisions.
- Own end-to-end feature development — from requirement analysis, design, and implementation to integration, testing, and deployment.
- Drive debugging and root-cause analysis for complex networking and system-level issues (WAN/LAN, Wi-Fi, routing, firewall, QoS, etc.).
- Work closely with product management, QA, and DevOps teams to ensure timely and high-quality releases.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical design decisions.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, security best practices, and client-specific quality guidelines.
- Interface directly with the client (SKY UK) stakeholders for technical discussions, status updates, and issue resolution.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes, tools, and CI/CD pipelines.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
