Software Engineer (Contract)

Duration: 12 Months (Possibility for extension)
Location: London (5 days per week on site)
Rate: A highly competitive Umbrella Day Rate is available for suitable candidates

Role Profile

Our client, a leading organisation in the investment banking sector, is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to join their dynamic team.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a professional who is adept at leveraging both existing and emerging technology platforms to design, develop, and document technically detailed applications that align with the organisation’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse organisational needs and goals to develop and implement robust application systems.
  • Write complex systems that involve multiple levels of table dimensions and internal sorts to accomplish specific functions.
  • Design, code, and create test transactions, ensuring high-quality software development through the execution of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Conduct thorough reviews of test plans and test data to maintain software functionality and currency, addressing technical debt and gain.
  • Develop flowcharts, layouts, and comprehensive documentation to satisfy requirements and proposed solutions.
  • Actively participate in code reviews, integrating software components into fully functional systems while applying security and privacy principles.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems to ensure they are equipped with the latest features.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with data engineers, project managers, and business users to achieve elegant solutions that drive business success.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements for existing systems and platforms, offering recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Mentor junior-level engineers and compile documentation of procedures for system development as directed by senior developers.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in software development, with strong skills in both front-end and back-end development coding languages such as C#, Java, HTML, NodeJS, CSS, JSON, Angular, and JavaScript.
  • Thorough knowledge of application frameworks and containerisation, coupled with experience in cross-platform interoperability and major toolkit features.
  • Familiarity with requirements gathering, Business Requirements Document (BRD) and Software Requirements Document (SRD) preparation.
  • Experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.
  • Excellent teamwork and organisational skills, demonstrating a collaborative approach to achieving shared objectives.
  • Ability to resolve hardware, software, and communications malfunctions while understanding the business impact of such resolutions.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and professional development, utilising tools like Pluralsight to meet personal development targets.
