About Antidote
Law firms lose valuable time and revenue to billing inefficiencies. We’re addressing that. Our AI-powered solution enables law firms to successfully invoice for more of their time, reduce lawyer administration, and simultaneously improve the client experience.
The market potential is huge. Legal spend in the English-speaking world exceeds £350bn and one in three e-Billed invoices is rejected — a leakage measured in tens of billions annually. A legal tech startup founded by two second-time legal tech operators, Antidote is already working with leading firms.
The Role
Antidote is looking for a Software Engineer to help us scale the platform that sits at the heart of our product. You’ll join a small, senior engineering team where your code ships quickly and visibly — there is no queue between what you build and what our customers use.
This is a role for someone early in their career who wants to move faster than a larger company would allow. You’ll work with the CTO and other engineers on services that ingest, interpret, and validate legal billing data at scale. Predominately working on our services layer, you will go where the work is from React our NextJS app to Terraform infrastructure changes.
LLMs form a key part of our product and there will be opportunities to work across the full back-end stack from middleware, through to prompts and evals.
We also expect our engineers to build with coding agents. We predominantly use Claude Code, and engineers are free to work in Cursor, IntelliJ, or another approved IDE alongside it. The important part is how you code in conjunction with AI and how you make sure you understand and guide the output.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and deploy production services that process legal billing data for our law firm customers
- Build and improve LLM-powered features — writing and iterating on prompts, structuring model inputs and outputs, and handling the failure modes that come with them
- Develop evaluation suites and test datasets
- Develop and maintain APIs and integrations connecting Antidote to firms’ practice management and e-Billing systems
- Work with relational data — modelling and performance
- Own your work end to end, from ticket through code review to production and monitoring
- Contribute to planning and technical design discussions
- Use coding agents as part of your day-to-day workflow
- Investigate and resolve production issues, communicating clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues

About You
Must haves
- At least 2 years’ experience writing production code in a commercial environment, ideally in Java or Python
- Solid grounding in software engineering fundamentals — version control, code review, testing, and debugging
- Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server
- Comfortable building or consuming REST APIs and integrating systems that weren’t designed to talk to each other
- Genuine interest in building with LLMs — no prior professional experience needed, but this will be a large part of the job
- Genuine appetite to learn — our stack will keep changing and we expect you to grow with it
- Clear communicator, happy to ask questions early and flag problems honestly
- Self-directed enough to make progress without daily direction, in a team without heavy process
- Right to work in the UK — we are unable to sponsor this role
It would be great but not essential if you also had...
- Any hands-on work with LLM APIs — OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar — or with more traditional ML such as classification, NLP, scikit-learn, or PyTorch. Commercial experience, open source, or a side project you can talk us through all count
- Exposure to evaluating model output — building eval sets, scoring approaches, or anything that turns “it seems better” into a number
- Experience working with coding agents — Claude Code, Cursor, or similar
- Exposure to cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
- Experience working in a startup or early-stage product environment
- Interest in legal tech, fintech, or compliance-adjacent SaaS products
- A STEM degree. Ideally a 2:1 or above in Maths, Physics or Computer Science or equivalent

Salary and Package
- £65-80k base dependent on experience
- 25 days annual leave

- Stock options based on salary
Location
The role is UK based, working from our office in Holborn two days a week with the rest of the week remote. We know that doesn’t suit everyone — if a more remote arrangement would work better for you, tell us and we’ll discuss it. What matters to us is that you can get to London regularly enough to build proper relationships with the team.
