Our client is looking for a Contract Software Engineer to join an engineering team in Oxfordshire for an initial three-month assignment, with potential for the project to run longer. You'll be joining an established project where much of the architectural work has already been completed. There's a clear direction, an existing codebase and defined functionality to deliver – they now need someone who can get up to speed and take ownership of moving the software forward.

- Work with software connected to image processing, hardware and embedded systems.
- Build and deliver release-ready software rather than getting tied up in lengthy requirements gathering.
- Work within an established development environment using GitLab for version control and Jira for project delivery.
- Gain further exposure to software development within a regulated environment.
- Collaborate with engineers across different disciplines while having plenty of autonomy over your own development work.

About You
The wishlist is someone with a solid background developing Windows applications using.NET who is comfortable getting into an existing codebase and becoming productive quickly.
The current application contains a significant amount of VB.NET, but previous VB.NET experience isn't essential. If you've developed Windows software elsewhere in the.NET ecosystem and are comfortable adapting, our client is open-minded.
Experience with C++ and/or Python would be particularly useful, alongside any exposure to C#. You don't necessarily need to tick every box across the technology stack, so candidates with strong transferable development experience are encouraged to apply.
Previous experience developing software within a regulated or compliance-focused environment would be advantageous, particularly where you've worked with requirements around areas such as data integrity, traceability or reporting.

You'll suit this contract if you're comfortable taking ownership, communicating with engineers outside of software and working independently once you're familiar with the project.

There's flexibility around working hours, with the wider team operating a 39-hour working week.
