Role: Software Engineer

Location: Glasgow, UK

Work Model: Glasgow / Hybrid as required

Work type - Contract Inside IR35

Rate - 395 - 450 GBP/ Day

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Technical Lead / Senior Java Engineer with strong experience in Java, Spring Boot and distributed systems.

You will work on backend and cloud-native solutions, helping design, develop and troubleshoot applications running across Kubernetes, containers and virtualised environments.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and development of Java / Spring Boot applications.
  • Develop and maintain REST APIs and backend services.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across distributed systems.
  • Work with Docker/Podman, Kubernetes and virtual machines.
  • Support application deployment and cloud-native environments.
  • Work with PostgreSQL and relational databases.
  • Apply networking and security fundamentals when designing and troubleshooting solutions.
  • Use Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure automation and configuration management.
  • Work with GitOps and modern DevOps practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, security and architecture teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and contribute to engineering best practices.

Essential Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Good programming experience with Python.
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging distributed systems.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs / Microservices.
  • Experience with Docker, Podman or similar container technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of VM / virtualisation environments.
  • Good knowledge of networking and security fundamentals.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database.
  • Experience with Terraform and/or Ansible.
  • Understanding of GitOps / DevOps practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
