Working Hours: 3-4 days/week on customer site
Clearance: Must be eligible for DV clearance (British Citizen, UK residency last 10 years).
We are looking for a senior application developer who can take ownership of technically challenging software delivery in a secure, mission-focused environment. This role suits an engineer who is comfortable making design decisions, solving complex problems, and working directly with users to turn operational requirements into reliable software solutions.
You will work primarily with Python, Vue, Electron, GitLab CI/CD, Ansible, Terraform/Terragrunt, and supporting platform technologies including MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, and RabbitMQ. Alongside application development, the role includes secure coding, infrastructure automation, deployment support, and occasional installation or configuration of hardware in controlled environments.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the design and development of desktop, web, or service-based applications.
- Architect and implement high quality Python code, application frameworks, APIs, and supporting automation.
- Develop and maintain modern user interfaces and desktop/web applications using Vue and Electron.
- Develop solutions that integrate data processing, UI/UX, automation, and system level components.
- Create, maintain, and improve infrastructure as code using Ansible and Terraform/Terragrunt.
- Lead testing, debugging, optimisation, and performance improvements.
- Shape requirements, propose technical approaches, and influence project direction.
- Support integration and deployment of software into secure operational environments.
- Build and support CI/CD pipelines in GitLab to automate testing, packaging, deployment, and release activities.
- Work with supporting platform components, including MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, RabbitMQ, and related integration services.
- Occasionally support installation, configuration, and commissioning of hardware in secure environments.
- Engage directly with users to understand operational challenges and deliver effective solutions.
- Produce high quality documentation and maintain traceable, peer reviewed git practices, aligned with repository governance policies.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
- Extensive experience in software development for applications or tools.
- Strong proficiency in Python and the ability to work across modern application frameworks and automation tooling.
- Experience designing and delivering production quality applications.
- Strong understanding of UI frameworks, APIs, data handling, system integration, and secure application design.
- Confident working in Linux and/or MacOS development environments.
- Ability to work flexibly across multiple programming languages and frameworks.
- Proven ability to solve complex technical problems with creativity and rigour.
- Ability to influence technical decisions and collaborate across teams.
- Experience with testing frameworks, debugging tools, Git workflows, and CI/CD pipelines, ideally using GitLab.
- Working knowledge of good industry practice for secure coding, application security, and security-conscious development lifecycles.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, particularly Ansible and Terraform/Terragrunt.
- Experience working with MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, RabbitMQ, or similar data and messaging technologies.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
