Software Engineer – System-Level/Desktop Applications

Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Software Engineer to lead the design and development of system-level/desktop applications for semiconductor equipment control software. The role demands deep technical expertise, full ownership of critical components, and the ability to drive complex features across cross-functional teams, while mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance desktop/system-level applications in Core Java
  • Take end-to-end ownership of features: requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, and release
  • Drive architecture decisions, design reviews, and technical direction for critical software components
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Systems, Hardware, QA, and Field Support) for feature development and issue resolution
  • Lead debugging, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex issues, including customer escalations
  • Ensure high code quality, scalability, and long-term maintainability of software components
  • Mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to team capability building and engineering best practices
  • Support project planning, estimation, and execution tracking for development work
  • Produce and review clear design documentation to ensure component maintainability and knowledge continuity

Mandatory Skills

  • Strong, hands-on experience in Core Java and/or C++ development (10+ years)
  • Deep understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and SOLID design principles
  • Expertise in system design, modular architecture, and proven design patterns
  • End-to-end experience in the software development lifecycle (design → development → testing → release)
  • Proficiency in multi-threaded programming, concurrency management, and performance optimization
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills for complex technical challenges
  • Proven ability to handle production/customer escalations and deliver quality fixes under pressure
  • Ability to drive technical discussions, design reviews, and cross-team alignment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with strong stakeholder collaboration skills

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
