Scope
You will work within multidisciplinary engineering teams developing software solutions for advanced defence and mission-critical systems. The role offers the opportunity to contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and design through implementation, integration, verification, and support. You will work on technically challenging programmes involving high-performance systems where reliability, security, and quality are essential.

Role
As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, integration, and verification of software solutions within a structured engineering environment. Working closely with software, systems, hardware, and test engineers, you will help deliver robust and maintainable software that meets customer and programme requirements.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain software solutions using C++ and C
- Support software development within Linux and embedded computing environments
- Analyse software and system requirements, ensuring full traceability throughout the development lifecycle
- Produce high-quality, maintainable and reusable code in accordance with coding standards and best practices
- Develop and execute unit, integration and system test activities
- Support software integration activities and troubleshooting within laboratory and target environments
- Contribute to software design reviews, peer reviews and technical discussions
- Work collaboratively with systems, hardware, integration and test teams
- Support configuration management and version control activities using industry-standard tools
- Produce clear technical documentation and engineering artefacts
- Participate in Agile development activities including sprint planning, estimation and retrospectives

Required Experience
- Experience developing software using C++ and/or C
- Experience working within the software development lifecycle
- Experience of software integration, testing and debugging
- Experience developing software within Linux or embedded environments
- Understanding of object-oriented design principles
- Experience using version control systems such as Git
Required Skills
- Strong software engineering and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in C++ and knowledge of C
- Understanding of software architecture and design principles
- Knowledge of software testing methodologies and automated testing approaches
- Understanding of requirements-driven development
- Ability to communicate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Strong debugging and fault-finding capability
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Linux application development
- Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies
- Knowledge of requirements management tools such as DOORS
- Experience with UML and software design modelling techniques
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated build environments
- Understanding of defence, aerospace, electronics, or safety-critical systems
- Experience with real-time or embedded software development
- Knowledge of communication protocols and hardware interfaces
Required Education
Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
