C#/.NET Developer – Backtesting & Test Automation Framework
We're looking for a C#/.NET Developer with a strong testing mindset to build a backtesting and test automation framework around an in-house trading system.
This is a hands-on software engineering role for someone who enjoys building robust, scalable .NET applications and frameworks, while thinking deeply about quality, testability, automation, and edge cases.
You'll be responsible for designing and developing a framework that transforms complex backtesting scenarios into repeatable, automated tests, treating the underlying trading platform as a black box and validating its observable inputs, outputs and event-driven behaviour.

£600–£700/day Inside IR35
What you'll be doing:
- Developing a scalable C#/.NET backtesting and test automation framework capable of processing large volumes of data and executing complex trading scenarios efficiently.
- Working across both software development and test automation, with a focus on building clean, maintainable and highly testable solutions.
- The framework will need to:
- Process and analyse large volumes of data efficiently
- Execute multiple backtesting scenarios concurrently
- Support approximately 20 parallel test executions
- Handle event-driven behaviour and asynchronous workflows
- Automate complex end-to-end trading scenarios
- Validate system behaviour through observable inputs, outputs and events
- Build reusable.NET components and test infrastructure
- Create maintainable and scalable automated test scenarios
- Make it straightforward for non-developers to define and execute new scenarios
- Integrate with existing automation and CI/CD pipelines
- Identify edge cases and failure scenarios through a strong testing mindset
- Ensure the framework is reliable, performant and easy to extend

What we're looking for:

- Strong commercial experience developing with C# and.NET /.NET Core
- Experience designing and building software frameworks or platforms
- Strong understanding of automated testing and testability
- Experience developing test automation frameworks or backtesting solutions
- Solid understanding of object-oriented design, SOLID principles and clean code
- Experience working with event-driven and asynchronous systems
- Experience designing solutions for parallel execution and high-volume data processing
- Strong understanding of software engineering practices, including debugging, logging, exception handling and performance
- Ability to translate complex business scenarios into robust, repeatable automated tests
- A genuine testing mindset, with an ability to think beyond the happy path and identify edge cases and failure modes
