Software Systems Engineer
Pearson Carter are working with an innovative and successful organisation that designs and manufactures high-tech capital equipment for worldwide export. They are now seeking an experienced Software Systems Engineer to take responsibility for the design, development and maintenance of software and control systems across existing and future projects.
The successful candidate will work across software development, system specifications, machine and motion control, software testing and system integration. You’ll be involved throughout the full software lifecycle, from requirements analysis and design through to testing, installation, troubleshooting and ongoing support.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Software Systems Engineer to join an established engineering environment and make a genuine impact across technically complex automation and machine control projects.

Responsibilities
- Analyse software requirements based on product definitions and specific customer needs, working closely with product development and production teams.
- Generate system specifications covering software design, system interfaces and product definition.
- Design and develop software code to meet specified requirements using the most appropriate programming languages.
- Prepare module descriptions, test plans, test procedures and other software documentation as required.
- Verify software products against specified requirements through structured testing and validation.
- Prepare design review documentation and contribute to technical design discussions.
- Work closely with end users, contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with system requirements.
- Support software and system installations at customer sites internationally as required.
- Investigate system problems throughout the full lifecycle, from design, coding and testing through to acceptance and ongoing product use.
- Identify and implement effective solutions to technical issues, including bug fixing, system modifications and enhancements.
- Contribute to the training of internal personnel on software systems and technologies.
- Maintain and develop current technical knowledge across relevant software and engineering technologies.
- Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of legacy control software, particularly VB.NET.
- Provide technical support and backup to the Software Systems Manager across core systems and other products.

Experience
- HND or Degree level qualification, preferably in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' commercial experience in software development.
- Strong commercial experience with VB.NET, ideally within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Experience developing software that interacts with hardware and engineering systems.
- Knowledge or interest in machine control, motion control and automation systems.
- Experience working with software requirements, system specifications and technical documentation.
- Experience with software testing, debugging and system validation.
- Understanding of software and hardware interfaces within complex engineering systems.
- Experience working with PLCs would be beneficial.
- Experience with laser control systems would be beneficial.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to investigate complex technical issues and develop practical solutions.
- Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, customers, contractors and other stakeholders.

Salary is dependent on experience and is competitive on the market. They are open to seeing
Location
This role is based in Bridgend, South Wales where you will work onsite from their office
