Founding Software Engineer
Product & Platform · London · 3 days per week in office
CodeWall is hiring its founding engineering team.
This is a rare opportunity. We're early enough that the product, architecture, engineering standards and culture are still being set — but far enough along that the fundamental bet is working. We have paying enterprise customers, real revenue and strong early demand for what we're building.
We're building autonomous offensive-security agents that find and prove vulnerabilities in real customer environments. They're already uncovering critical vulnerabilities in systems built and operated by some of the world's most sophisticated organisations.
Now we're building the engineering team that takes that foundation and turns it into a world-class product and platform.
About the Role
As a Founding Software Engineer, you'll work across the stack to build the product security teams use every day — from polished, intuitive interfaces through to the APIs, data models and systems behind them.
This isn't a role where "full-stack" means mostly backend with the occasional frontend change. We're looking for engineers who enjoy working on both sides of the boundary and care deeply about the quality of the finished product.
You'll join a small team where you'll have significant ownership, work directly with customers and experienced engineers, and see the consequences of what you build quickly.
What You'll Work On
- Build product end to end. Take features from an idea or customer problem through design, implementation and production — across Next.js and TypeScript in the frontend, Python in the backend, and the data and APIs between them.
- Build interfaces security teams want to use. Work on findings and evidence, reporting, asset inventory, scheduling, integrations and the workflows around them. Take complex technical information and make it clear, fast and useful.
- Turn agent output into product. Our agents can discover a huge amount about a customer's environment. You'll build the experiences that turn those discoveries into workflows security teams can understand, investigate and act on.
- Make AI-native engineering real. Use and improve the agent workflows, evaluations, guardrails and tooling we use to develop CodeWall. Engineers own the loop here: AI is part of how we build, not a tool bolted onto the side.
- Own what you ship. Work across testing, observability, deployment and production operation. You'll have support from experienced engineers, but features don't get thrown over a wall once the code is merged.

We'd Like to Meet You If
- You're a strong product engineer who is comfortable working across frontend and backend and has shipped software used by real customers.
- You're genuinely fluent in TypeScript, React and Next.js. You understand the browser, component architecture, state, data fetching and the details that make an interface feel fast and polished.
- You're comfortable building backend services and APIs. Python experience is valuable, but strong backend engineering fundamentals matter more than having used exactly our stack before.
- You can work confidently with SQL and relational data, and understand how decisions in the data model flow all the way through an API to the user experience.
- You care about product quality. You notice confusing interactions, awkward workflows and rough edges, and your instinct is to fix them rather than declare them somebody else's responsibility.
- AI is already changing how you build software. You're comfortable working with coding agents and other AI tooling, but you understand that generated code still needs engineering judgment, verification and ownership.
- You're comfortable with autonomy without needing to know everything already. You ask good questions, learn quickly, seek feedback and can take a well-scoped problem from ambiguity to production.
Particularly Interesting
You don't need these, but we'd be especially interested if you have experience with one or more of:
- Building complex B2B or developer-facing SaaS products
- Design systems, frontend architecture or sophisticated data-heavy interfaces
- Python and modern async backend frameworks
- Security products or building for security practitioners
- Cloud infrastructure, containers and operating production systems
- Agentic or AI-native software development beyond autocomplete

How We Work
- Judgment and urgency. Much of this job is deciding what matters and acting on it. We hire people who make that call well, repeatedly, without waiting to be told. We have genuine customer pull and a market moving extremely quickly. We intend to capitalise on it.
- Ownership runs end to end. The people who build CodeWall talk directly to the security teams using it, ship what they build and operate it in production. Nothing important is beneath anyone and nothing gets thrown over a wall.
- Direct, without sharp elbows. We say what we think early. We're hard on problems and easy on people, and the bar for how we treat each other doesn't drop when the pressure rises. Conviction is welcome; ego isn't.
- AI-first. The engineers using our development harness are also responsible for improving it. AI-generated work is held to exactly the same engineering standard as human-generated work.
We work from our London office three days a week. At this stage, with this much still to invent, we believe engineering is faster and better when we spend meaningful time in the same room.
