Software Engineer -Belfast | Hybrid | Permanent

MCS Group is working with a growing technology company in Belfast that is looking to add 2 Software Engineers to its growing development team. This is a great opportunity for a software engineer with around 1-3 years of commercial experience who wants to build strong backend engineering skills while working with modern cloud technologies and avail of the support of some brilliant leaders in their field along with some of NI's best and most experienced software engineers.

The Role

You'll join an established engineering team building and improving software used by enterprise customers. The role will be primarily backend focused, with exposure to APIs, distributed services, cloud infrastructure and modern software engineering practices. You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of real development work while receiving support and mentoring from more experienced engineers.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Develop and maintain backend applications and services
  • Build and integrate REST APIs
  • Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code
  • Work with databases and data-driven applications
  • Support applications running within cloud environments
  • Work with containerised applications using Docker
  • Contribute to code reviews and technical discussions
  • Work closely with engineering, product and other technical teams
  • Help troubleshoot issues and improve application performance

What We're Looking For

You'll ideally have 1-3 years of commercial software development experience and a genuine interest in backend engineering. Experience across some of the following would be useful:

  • Node.js and/or Python
  • REST APIs and backend application development
  • SQL or NoSQL databases
  • Git and modern development workflows
  • Docker
  • Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Automated testing and good software engineering practices

Exposure to Kubernetes, React, graph technologies or AI-related development would be useful, but none are essential. More important is a strong foundation in software development, a willingness to learn and an interest in developing your backend and cloud engineering skills.
