Core Platform Engineer
Our client, a leading global hedge fund, is seeking a Core Platform Engineer to design and build the foundational engineering capabilities that power the firm's technology platform. This team develops the shared services, frameworks, and internal tooling that enable engineering teams across investment, trading, risk, operations, and enterprise technology to build and operate scalable, secure, and highly reliable applications.
This is a highly visible engineering role focused on building reusable platform capabilities that improve developer productivity, standardize engineering practices, and support the firm's mission-critical systems. The successful candidate will help shape the engineering platform used across a global technology organization while working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where reliability, performance, and software quality are paramount.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain shared backend services, frameworks, and platform components used across the firm's engineering organization.
- Build reusable Python-based libraries, APIs, and internal developer tools that accelerate software delivery and promote engineering consistency.
- Develop common platform capabilities including authentication and authorization frameworks, API standards, observability, logging, monitoring, configuration management, and runtime utilities.
- Improve the developer experience through automation, self-service tooling, standardized service templates, documentation, and streamlined development workflows.
- Define and evolve engineering standards covering application architecture, API design, deployment patterns, monitoring, operational support, and platform governance.
- Partner with application developers, infrastructure, cloud, security, and DevOps teams to deliver scalable platform solutions supporting enterprise and trading applications.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, production support, debugging, release automation, and continuous platform improvements.
- Build highly reliable and scalable platform services capable of supporting mission-critical applications across global engineering teams.
- Evaluate and integrate AI-powered developer tooling and automation where it can improve engineering productivity and software quality.
- Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices across multiple development teams.

Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of software engineering experience building enterprise backend systems, platform services, or internal developer tooling.
- Expert-level Python development experience with a strong understanding of software design principles and distributed systems.
- Experience designing and developing REST APIs, backend services, reusable libraries, and shared engineering frameworks.
- Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, service architecture, API design, observability, logging, monitoring, resiliency, and error handling.
- Experience with modern backend technologies such as FastAPI, Flask, Node.js, or similar frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
- Experience building scalable, highly available systems supporting multiple engineering teams and business-critical applications.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, infrastructure, security, and business technology teams.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building internal developer platforms, engineering enablement tools, service frameworks, or enterprise platform infrastructure.
- Experience designing reusable platform services that improve engineering productivity across large organizations.
- Strong understanding of developer experience, internal tooling, service templates, reusable libraries, and engineering governance.
- Experience improving observability, production support, operational excellence, and platform reliability.
- Exposure to AI-assisted software development, internal developer copilots, LLM-based engineering tools, or workflow automation.
- Experience working within hedge funds, investment management, asset management, capital markets, or other financial services environments supporting high-performance, business-critical systems.
