Spectrum IT Recruitment is working with an innovative technology company developing cutting-edge 5G communications technology, and we’re looking for a Software Engineer to join its growing engineering team.
This is a hands-on role focused on the software infrastructure underpinning 5G NR physical layer (PHY) systems, with a particular emphasis on achieving real-time performance on embedded platforms.
You’ll be working at the intersection of embedded software, high-performance C/C++ and advanced wireless communications, collaborating with hardware, systems and test engineers to deliver highly optimised solutions.
What you’ll be doing:
- Developing software used to run and test 5G NR PHY algorithms
- Writing and optimising high-performance C/C++ code
- Optimising performance using SIMD, multithreading and hardware acceleration
- Integrating software with 5G PHY algorithms and ARM-based platforms
- Improving and maintaining automated CI testing across the platform
- Supporting interoperability testing with other technology vendors and operators
- Working closely with hardware, system architecture and system test teams
- Contributing to technical reviews and customer-facing engineering discussions

What we’re looking for:
- Strong commercial C or C++ development skills
- Experience with scripting using Python, Bash or Groovy
- A good understanding of software performance and optimisation
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering teams

Experience in any of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Real-time embedded systems and Embedded Linux
- ARM platforms
- SIMD and multithreaded software optimisation
- FPGA or DSP hardware acceleration
- Signal processing / DSP
- Xilinx Vivado or other FPGA toolchains
- 5G / telecommunications software development
- O-RAN, eCPRI or fronthaul protocols
