About The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to join an award-winning Defence and Search & Rescue organization located just outside of Lincoln. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic technical team comprising 15 professionals, including Software Engineers, Software Testers, Product Owners, and Support staff. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing complex defense solutions, contributing throughout the entire software development lifecycle from conception to deployment. The environment fosters innovation, creativity, and collaboration, providing a relaxed yet professional setting where your technical expertise and ideas can thrive. This position is hybrid, offering flexibility in working arrangements, and is ideal for candidates eager to make a meaningful impact in the defense sector using cutting-edge technologies.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in software development, with experience or knowledge in the following areas:

  • Proficiency in C++ or C# programming languages
  • Experience with DevOps practices and version control systems such as GitHub
  • Familiarity with simulation technologies and frameworks
  • Knowledge of graphical programming languages and APIs including OpenGL, WebGL, and DirectX
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies
  • A passion for learning new technologies and solving complex problems

While expertise in all the listed technologies is not mandatory, a strong basis knowledge and enthusiasm to expand your skill set are essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills. Additionally, due to the sensitive nature of the work, applicants must be UK nationals with a minimum of five consecutive years of UK residency to meet government security vetting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software solutions for defense applications using C++ or C#
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product owners, testers, and support staff to ensure seamless project delivery
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to testing and deployment
  • Implement DevOps practices to streamline development and deployment processes
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of coding standards, tools, and methodologies
  • Engage in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure software reliability and performance
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies relevant to defense and simulation sectors and incorporate best practices
