Hiring: Java Backend Engineer / Java Full Stack Engineer

Location: Leeds, UK
Work Model: [Hybrid / Onsite – please update if applicable]
Contract Rate: Up to £400 per day

Contract Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Java Backend Engineer / Java Full Stack Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team working on scalable, cloud-based applications and modern microservices.

This opportunity is suitable for professionals with strong experience in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, SQL, APIs, and cloud-based application development. Candidates with experience in Java backend development who also have exposure to React, Kafka, GCP, Docker, or Kubernetes are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java-based backend applications and microservices.
  • Build and enhance modern applications using Java 17 and Spring Boot.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and web services.
  • Work closely with engineering, product, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Contribute to technical design, architecture discussions, and engineering best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews and support high standards for code quality, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and production issues.
  • Support and mentor other developers where required.
  • Contribute to CI/CD, containerization, testing, and cloud deployment activities.
  • Work with frontend teams and contribute to React-based development where relevant.

Core Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Java, ideally Java 17 or newer.
  • Strong experience with Spring Boot and Spring Framework.
  • Experience designing and developing Microservices.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs and web services.
  • Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience with database design, query optimization, indexing, and transactions.
  • Experience with unit testing and integration testing.
  • Knowledge of software engineering principles such as SOLID and clean-code practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
