Software Engineer - SC - Cheltenham (Hybrid) - £75,000

Are you a Software Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges? Do you want to work on cutting-edge technology that supports critical national missions in a highly secure environment?

We're looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering secure, mission-critical software for customers operating at the forefront of Defence and National Security. You'll be working on innovative projects where reliability, security and performance are essential, helping to develop technology that has genuine operational impact.

The Role

Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, you'll design, develop and deliver secure software solutions used in highly secure environments. This is an opportunity to work across the full software development lifecycle while contributing to products that enable faster, smarter decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining secure software applications.
  • Building Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
  • Developing backend services and APIs using Rust, Python or Go.
  • Managing source code using Git and collaborating through code reviews.
  • Containerising applications using Docker.
  • Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to support automated software delivery.
  • Writing clean, maintainable and well-documented code.
  • Working closely with engineers, architects and technical specialists to solve complex problems.
  • Staying up to date with emerging technologies and software engineering best practices.

About You

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience developing Android applications using Kotlin.
  • Backend development experience with Rust, Python or Go.
  • Strong knowledge of Git version control.
  • Experience with Docker and containerised applications.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
  • Understanding of software engineering principles including APIs, data structures, MVVM/UDF and OpenAPI.
  • Experience working on proof-of-concept or rapidly evolving products.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work effectively within secure development environments.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous.

Security Clearance

Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance. Occasional travel to Herefordshire will be required.
