About The Role

We are seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer to join Bauer Media’s newly established in-house software engineering hub in Manchester. This pivotal role involves leading the development of core infrastructure, building scalable features, and shaping the technical foundation of our innovative audio platform. As part of a collaborative, product-led team, you will work closely with product managers, lead engineers, and cross-disciplinary colleagues to deliver resilient, secure, and high-performance systems that support Bauer’s extensive media ecosystem. Your expertise will help drive technical excellence, influence architectural decisions, and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of building platforms that impact millions of listeners across Europe, contributing to Bauer Media’s future growth and technological evolution.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in software engineering, with experience across both frontend and backend development. Proficiency in our core technology stack—Java Spring Boot, AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, and TypeScript/React—is essential. Candidates should have demonstrated experience designing and implementing microservices or domain-driven architectures, working with asynchronous, event-driven communication, and applying modern DevOps practices such as CI/CD and containerization. A solid understanding of security best practices, incident management, and operational excellence is required. Additionally, a keen interest in AI-assisted development tools and their application to improve productivity and code quality is desirable. Effective communication skills, mentorship experience, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines are vital. Industry experience in media, audio streaming, or consumer platforms is advantageous but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain features and services across Bauer’s audio platform, taking complete ownership from design through deployment.
  • Contribute to early-stage prototyping and infrastructure work to establish a robust foundation for future development.
  • Participate in architectural decision-making, sharing expertise to inform technical strategies within your squad.
  • Collaborate with lead engineers and product managers to ensure alignment with technical direction and delivery objectives.
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pairing sessions, and knowledge sharing to foster team growth.
  • Support the onboarding of new team members and contribute to building a diverse, inclusive, and psychologically safe environment.
  • Champion DevOps practices, including automation, CI/CD pipelines, and observability, to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Uphold security standards and lead testing strategies to ensure the integrity and resilience of systems.
  • Participate in incident management, providing technical support and clear communication during high-pressure situations.
