Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid working role. Whiteley, Hampshire

Clearance Required: This role will require attainment and maintenance of SC clearance.

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Air Traffic Management programme. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your software engineering career while working on safety-critical, real-time Air Traffic Control systems.

You will receive support and mentoring from experienced engineers as you develop your technical and professional skills within a safety-critical engineering environment. As part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will gain experience across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and design through to implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support.

Knowledge and Experience

We are interested in candidates who can demonstrate experience of, or an interest in, some of the following areas:

  • Unix/Linux operating systems
  • Programming languages such as C, C++, Python, PL/SQL, HTML, or JavaScript
  • Scripting languages such as Python, Bourne Shell, or Perl
  • Virtualisation and cloud computing concepts
  • Networking and communications protocols, particularly TCP/IP
  • Software engineering lifecycle activities, including requirements, design, development, testing, and maintenance

Typical Responsibilities

  • Investigate issues across software applications and supporting systems
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of software solutions
  • Contribute to software architecture and design activities
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of software solutions
  • Support change, configuration, and release management activities
  • Identify and help manage technical risks and opportunities
  • Work closely with Systems Engineering, Formal Test, project management, and technical leaders
  • Develop software test plans and support test execution
  • Produce technical documentation, reports, and supporting artefacts
  • Follow established engineering processes, standards, and best practices

This role is based in Whiteley, Hampshire, with opportunities for hybrid working. Appointment is subject to the successful candidate holding, or being eligible to obtain, UK Security Check (SC) clearance.
