Software Engineer

Salary: £47,200 - £59,000 DOE + Benefits + Bonus

Location: Birmingham

Closing Date: 20th October

We care deeply about inclusive working practices and diverse teams. If you'd prefer to work part-time or as a job-share, we'll facilitate this wherever we can; whether to help you meet other commitments or to help you strike a great work-life balance.

About

We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join our growing Engineering team at ParkIT, designing, building and operating software across our cloud platform.

ParkIT is part of BookFlowGo, Holiday Extras Group’s B2B parking technology offering. BookFlowGo brings together pre-booking technology, parking operations software and hardware innovation to help airports, cities and mobility hubs run smarter, more efficient parking operations. Together, Parkspace by Chauntry, ParkIT and Future Generation Services (FGS) create a connected parking ecosystem that helps operators maximise revenue, optimise capacity and make parking more seamless for travellers.

At ParkIT, we build software that helps parking operations teams work smarter. ParkIT was created after identifying a need to move complex airport parking operations away from manual, paper-based processes. Today, our technology helps operators make more efficient, data-driven decisions and keep vehicle movements flowing smoothly.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll work primarily with Node.js, React and TypeScript, collaborating with Product Managers and fellow engineers to turn real operational challenges into scalable services and intuitive user experiences.

AI is part of how we build software at ParkIT. You’ll be expected to use AI tools throughout development, from exploring a codebase and testing ideas to implementation, review and documentation. You’ll help us develop effective ways of working with these tools, while using your engineering judgement to question their output and take responsibility for the software you deliver.

You don’t need experience with a particular AI tool, agent harness or AI-first team to apply. We’re looking for a strong software engineer who is curious, willing to learn and ready to make AI a regular part of their work. We expect you to experiment, share what works and adapt as the tools develop.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Role

By joining our team, you'll:

  • Design, implement, and maintain backend services, frontend applications, and APIs using Node.js, React, and TypeScript.
  • Take ownership of features from initial understanding and technical design through to deployment, monitoring and improvement.
  • Work with Product Managers, engineers, data specialists and DevOps colleagues to turn requirements into clear, working software.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools for codebase exploration, research, design, implementation, testing, debugging, refactoring, documentation and review.
  • Critically review and validate AI-assisted output for correctness, security, performance and maintainability before it becomes part of our products.
  • Write unit, integration, component and end-to-end tests that safeguard reliability and meaningful behaviour.
  • Build and integrate APIs, distributed services and cloud-native components on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and release processes that support safe, repeatable delivery.
  • Take ownership of debugging, root-cause analysis, optimisation and the resolution of production issues.
  • Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions, and help us continuously improve our engineering practices.

What you can bring to our team

  • Strong professional experience with Node.js, React and TypeScript in production environments.
  • A solid understanding of modern JavaScript and TypeScript, including asynchronous programming and sound type design.
  • Experience building and operating cloud-based web applications, backend services and distributed systems.
  • Experience with API design, databases and the integration of services across a wider platform.
  • Strong grounding in testing practices, including unit, integration and automated testing; experience with Jest and TDD is beneficial.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform, together with Git, Docker and CI/CD workflows.
  • A willingness to use AI coding assistants and agentic tools as part of everyday software delivery, and to learn how to use them effectively.
  • Strong technical judgement when working with AI: you can provide appropriate context and constraints, critically review generated output, and identify incorrect, insecure or unsuitable suggestions. You remain accountable for the work you deliver.
  • An analytical and curious approach, with the persistence to investigate complex systems and solve real-world problems.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, pragmatic approach to delivery.
