About The Role
We are seeking a motivated Mid-level Software Engineer to join an in-house engineering team at a prominent UK retailer undergoing a major technology transformation. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the modernization of legacy systems by developing modern, scalable backend services. The successful candidate will primarily focus on building new features using TypeScript, Node.js, and AWS, while also assisting in migrating existing functionality from legacy.NET applications. The role requires a blend of technical expertise in serverless, event-driven architecture and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Based in Leamington Spa with flexible working arrangements, this position is ideal for individuals eager to work on innovative projects within a dynamic team environment.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in software development with experience in TypeScript and Node.js. Familiarity with AWS services such as Lambda, EKS/ECS, EC2, EventBridge, and DynamoDB is highly desirable. Candidates should have hands-on experience working with microservices architecture and serverless solutions. A good understanding of relational databases and SQL, along with experience in integrating various system components, is essential. Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to work independently are important qualities. A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain APIs, backend services, and integrations using TypeScript and Node.js.
- Participate in the migration of legacy .NET applications to modern Typescript-based services, ensuring minimal disruption and optimal performance.
- Implement and manage cloud infrastructure utilizing AWS services, focusing on serverless and event-driven architectures.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to define requirements, develop solutions, and deliver high-quality features on schedule.
- Support live systems by monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing necessary improvements.
- Engage in code reviews, testing, and technical discussions to uphold coding standards and best practices.
- Contribute to documentation and technical specifications to facilitate knowledge sharing and future development efforts.
