About The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Software Engineer to join our dynamic team at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and contribute to national security initiatives. As a Software Engineer, you will collaborate with national security clients to develop, deploy, and maintain mission-critical systems. You will operate within empowered, autonomous DevOps teams, engaging directly with end-users to understand their needs and deliver impactful solutions. The role is based in London, Manchester, or Leeds, with hybrid working arrangements available, accommodating both full-time and part-time applicants. You will be part of a culture that encourages innovation, continuous learning, and professional growth, working on diverse projects that make a tangible difference to UK security.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in software development and a passion for solving complex problems. Relevant qualifications include experience in programming languages such as JavaScript, Java, .Net, or Python. A solid understanding of source control systems like Git, Mercurial, or Perforce, along with experience in CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo, or Bitbucket, is essential. Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and static code analysis tools like SonarQube is highly desirable. Candidates should have experience working within agile environments, employing methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or Lean. Knowledge of software design patterns and the ability to apply creative solutions to client challenges are important. Preferred qualifications include experience with machine learning frameworks, cloud deployment (AWS, Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and database systems. Security clearance at the active eDV level is required for this role.

Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining software solutions that support national security missions.
  • Working closely with end-users to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code, utilizing version control systems to manage changes.
  • Participating in automated testing and static analysis to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaborating within agile teams and contributing to sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Deploying applications using CI/CD pipelines, troubleshooting issues, and continuously improving system performance.
  • Exploring new technologies and methodologies to enhance the capabilities of your team and deliver innovative solutions to complex problems.
