Role Summary

As a Software Engineer, your role is to help drive and expand Battenhall’s product development and innovation capabilities. As a strong full-stack engineer with a backend focus, you will own the technical delivery of production systems while leading the planning, prioritisation, and coordination of engineering work. You'll play a key role in helping shape the technical direction of our products, coordinating multi-engineer projects, and working flexibly in a small, fast-moving environment where team members comfortably wear multiple hats.

Responsibilities

As part of Battenhall’s Innovation team and reporting to the Staff Software Engineer, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Owning the technical delivery of production systems across projects involving multiple engineers.
  • Planning, prioritising, and coordinating engineering work, ensuring smooth collaboration and delivery.
  • Scaling full-stack web applications and SaaS platforms, including custom API integrations and platform extensions.
  • Maintaining and evolving production systems to ensure reliability, performance, and long-term maintainability.
  • Collaborating closely with internal client-servicing teams to convert user needs into robust technical solutions.
  • Supporting client discussions where technical input is required, helping to interrogate briefs and present progress to clients and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Keeping up to date with emerging technologies and general trends in tech to inform current and future projects.
  • Thriving in a dynamic, small-team setting by taking on varied cross-functional tasks as required.
  • Mentoring junior engineers by offering technical guidance and supporting their career development.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
