Software Engineer | C# / SQL / Event-Driven Systems | Front-Office Delivery | £81,000 | Commodities & Energy | Hybrid, UK

A Software Engineer is required to join a commercial-facing Front Office Delivery group responsible for building and maintaining the systems that power real-time trading workflows across European power markets. This team sits directly between trading, operations, and enterprise technology, delivering platforms that query live positions, generate market orders, orchestrate operational processes, and feed structured messages into trade-capture systems.

The work is fast-moving, highly collaborative, and deeply technical. You’ll be working on systems that traders and analysts rely on every day—tools that must be accurate, resilient, and capable of handling high-integrity data flows. The environment rewards engineers who can understand complex systems quickly, break down ambiguous requirements, and design solutions that balance robustness with delivery speed.

You’ll be involved end-to-end: defining architectures, building distributed services, modernising legacy workflows, and contributing to front-end features used by desks to launch batches, optimise processes, and manage explicit orders. The team values engineers who enjoy learning new technologies, exploring new problem spaces, and building systems that are genuinely supportable. There is also a strong focus on leveraging AI tooling to improve code quality, test coverage, and delivery efficiency.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
