Back-End Software Engineer

Referment is working with a banking technology company that builds cloud-native core banking and payments software. It is looking for a back-end Software Engineer to develop the services behind its banking platform, with an emphasis on production-ready code and automated testing.

You'll work on scalable, performant microservices and stay involved as your changes move from test environments into production. The engineering approach uses continuous deployment and a shared codebase, so writing the feature is only part of the job: testing, debugging deployments and integrating changes coherently with other teams also matter.

The role also has a customer-facing dimension. You'll translate customer requirements into actionable engineering work and contribute to scoping projects and defining deliverables. It offers a mix of hands-on back-end development, cross-team collaboration and practical involvement in delivering software for banking clients.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Experience developing software in either Python or Go; you do not need both.
  • Experience making automated testing an integral part of the development cycle.
  • An interest in client-facing projects, including understanding requirements and defining what will be delivered.

Useful Additional Experience

  • Cloud platforms such as AWS, SQL or NoSQL databases, networking and client/server or microservice architectures would be useful.
  • Experience with orchestration tools such as Kubernetes or Mesos, or knowledge of banking and finance, is also welcome rather than essential.

This could suit a back-end engineer who enjoys building and testing services, following them into production and understanding the customer problem behind the work.
