Your Role And Responsibilities

About the Role:

Backend engineers at Confluent work on a set of diverse and technically challenging problems, including building cloud frameworks and services that power components of the Confluent Cloud platform. You will have the opportunity to work with modern cloud-native technologies and contribute to services supporting Confluent Cloud, including Connect, Apache Flink, Kafka and more.

As a software engineer, you will work closely with experienced engineers to design, develop, test and deploy reliable backend services. You will learn and apply best practices in cloud-native development, distributed systems, microservices and containerized environments while contributing to the continuous improvement of the platform.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and maintain backend services that deliver value to Confluent Cloud customers
  • Work with senior engineers on designing and implementing scalable, reliable and maintainable services
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues across a technical stack including microservices, containers and cloud infrastructure
  • Write clean, well-tested and maintainable code following software engineering best practices
  • Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions and documentation
  • Support the deployment, monitoring and operation of production services
  • Collaborate with engineers across different teams to deliver projects and resolve technical challenges
  • Learn and contribute to improvements in service reliability, performance and operational processes

Required Technical And Professional Expertise

  • Experience developing backend software in a production or professional environment
  • Good programming skills in at least one major programming language, such as Java, Go, C/C++, Python, or similar
  • Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including testing, code reviews, debugging and documentation
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, microservices and cloud-native application development
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and work effectively with other engineers
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and work in a technically challenging cloud environment

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience

  • Experience working with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm or similar cloud-native technologies
  • Experience with distributed systems, messaging systems or event-driven architectures
  • Experience working with production applications and monitoring/observability tools
  • Exposure to performance, scalability, reliability or availability considerations
  • Experience with Kafka or other streaming technologies is a plus
