Software Engineer – Distributed Systems
Contract | London Hybrid (3 days onsite)
About the Role
We're looking for a Software Engineer to design, build, and scale distributed backend systems. You'll work on high-performance, resilient services and collaborate with engineers on system architecture, technical design, and delivery of scalable software solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Go (Golang) as the primary language.
- Candidates with strong experience in Rust or C++ who are willing to work with Go are also encouraged to apply.
- Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
- Develop tooling and automation using Python where appropriate.
- Design and optimise PostgreSQL databases and SQL queries.
- Deploy and operate applications on AWS.
- Manage infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
- Collaborate on system architecture, design reviews, and engineering best practices.
- Participate in production support and an on-call rota when required.

Requirements
- Strong software engineering experience building backend applications.
- Commercial experience with Go (Golang) preferred. Candidates with strong Rust or modern C++ experience are also welcome.
- Experience designing and developing distributed systems.
- Good knowledge of Python.
- Experience with AWS.
- Experience using Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tools.
- Strong SQL and PostgreSQL skills.
- Understanding of concurrency, networking, APIs, and scalable system design.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
