Software Engineer – Distributed Systems

Contract | London Hybrid (3 days onsite)

About the Role

We're looking for a Software Engineer to design, build, and scale distributed backend systems. You'll work on high-performance, resilient services and collaborate with engineers on system architecture, technical design, and delivery of scalable software solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Go (Golang) as the primary language.
  • Candidates with strong experience in Rust or C++ who are willing to work with Go are also encouraged to apply.
  • Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
  • Develop tooling and automation using Python where appropriate.
  • Design and optimise PostgreSQL databases and SQL queries.
  • Deploy and operate applications on AWS.
  • Manage infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Collaborate on system architecture, design reviews, and engineering best practices.
  • Participate in production support and an on-call rota when required.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering experience building backend applications.
  • Commercial experience with Go (Golang) preferred. Candidates with strong Rust or modern C++ experience are also welcome.
  • Experience designing and developing distributed systems.
  • Good knowledge of Python.
  • Experience with AWS.
  • Experience using Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tools.
  • Strong SQL and PostgreSQL skills.
  • Understanding of concurrency, networking, APIs, and scalable system design.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
